Publish the file through your own service
First place the document or image on a hosting or sharing service you choose. Obtain a link intended for the audience who will scan the code. Review the file for personal information, confidential content and permission to share other people’s work.
Open the link in a private browser window while signed out, and on a separate phone. A file that opens in your account may require recipients to sign in or request access. Adjust permissions in the hosting service, not the QR tool.
Keep the link and the file in sync
The static code stores the exact address you enter. Updating the file can work without a new QR only if that same URL continues to serve the intended content. Some services create a new address for each upload, so confirm this rather than assuming replacement works.
If the address changes, create a new QR and replace distributed copies where possible. The code has no built-in expiry, but deleted files, changed permissions and expired sharing links can stop access. Test the final PDF, image or printed sign at its real viewing size.
Create your code
- Upload or publish the file with your chosen hosting service.
- Copy its sharing link and check access while signed out.
- Select File / PDF / image in the QR tool and paste the link.
- Generate, download and scan on a separate phone.

Frequently asked questions
Do I upload my PDF to ToolsCD?
No. This tool encodes a link; file hosting and access permissions stay with the service you choose.
Does the QR contain the whole image or PDF?
No. It contains the file address. The recipient needs access to that destination to retrieve the file.
Can I replace the file without reprinting?
Only if the same encoded URL still opens the updated file. If the service changes the URL, generate a new code.
